Martensville Community Access Centre Closure Dates
The Community Access Centre will be closed over the holiday season. Our last day in office before the break is Friday, December 23rd, 2011. We will return on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012.

3rd Annual Are You Smarter than a Martensville 5th Grader ?!
Event Information Update
The Community Access Centre proudly hosted their 3rd annual fundraiser “Are You Smarter than a Martensville 5th Grader?! in Martensville on Saturday, November 19th, 2011.
Contestants were Nancy Heppner (MLA), Kent Muench (City of Martensville Councilor) and Chad Eckes (volunteer firefighter with Martensville Fire Dept.). The grade 5’s that participated in the show were: Valley Manor’s Alexis Jamieson (5 McQueen) and Montana Kadynuik (5 Golding). Venture Height’s Logan Hradecki (5 Harder), Rhys O’Soup (5 Soparlo), and Austin Whitrow (5/6 Cline). Our 5th grader guest spot was filled by Venture Heights Ciarra Thiessen and our family guest spot was filled by the Berk family!! The host of the game show was CTV's late night anchor man Matt Young!!
Thank you to Ali Strunk with her team of babysitters who participated in a babysitters experience evening, Lori Morphy and her Rhythmic Gymnastics ladies and Wynnona McDonald with her Drama ladies!! We appreciate all of your efforts.
Thank you to Terri Hetterly for allocating volunteer time with the Fundraising Committee. Thank you Valley Manor School, Venture Heights School and Kim Eckes for selling tickets for the event.

The Canada Day Celebrations 2011
The Martensville Community Access Centre hosted the 3rd Annual Canada Day in Martensville.
We had many guests attend our celebrations this year! Approximately 200+ guests attended the afternoon activities, hundreds of people shared in Canada Day cake and ice cream, numerous guests attended the fireworks display and over 300 attended the movie RIO at sundown.
Thank you Martensville residents and other local communities for the support and success in celebrating Canada Day 2011!

entertaining Game Show! Special Thanks to Mr. Nichol, Mr. Novak, Mr. Tebay and
Mr. Staples for participating in the game show. Mr. Staples made it to the
Million Dollar Bonus Question and proved that HE IS smarter than a Martensville
5th Grader! Great Job. Special Thank You to all of our 5th graders who
participated, businesses who donated to the silent auction and raffles, all of
our Volunteers, and our guest entertainers - Host Veronica Jubinville from CTV

Fall Programs
Baby Babble/Toddler Talk
Starts Wednesday, October 6th
Wednesday afternoons, 1:00pm-3:00pm
Bring your little ones age 0-3 years each week to meet other parents and
children and get great information on a wide variety of baby and toddler
related topics. The first hour will feature information and sharing, followed
by time to socialize and get to know other parents and their little ones. Moms
and dads are both welcome. This program is facilitated by Kristee, along with
guest speakers and other professionals.
Cost: $2/drop in or $10 for each 8 week session.
Ah-Ha! Homework Club!
Starts Tuesday, October 5th
Tuesday & Thursday evenings, 6:30pm-8:00pm
Elementary school students can drop in for help with homework and practice in
school subjects. Volunteer tutors are available to answer questions, plus we
have lots of hands on activities, games and other tools to help you learn!
Parents are welcome too!
Cost: FREE!

Canada Day a Huge Success!
The weather was beautiful for our Canada Day Celebrations on July 1st. Not a
drop of rain fell, and families enjoyed an afternoon of great family friendly
activities - crafts, games, scavenger hunt, and plenty of prizes and Canada
flag tattoos for all. The day was completed with the highlight of the event - a
great fireworks show and an outdoor movie theatre featuring the brand new movie
"How To Train Your Dragon".
The Martensville High School Cheerleading Team had a successful barbeque,
raising funds to support and expand the cheerleading program here in
Martensville.
THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who shared their time and energy to make
this event a huge success.
We hope to see everyone out again on July 1st, 2011!!

CANADA DAY UPDATE!
Our Nation's Birthday is drawing near!
We are less than two weeks away now and we are getting SO EXCITED!!
Here is a quick update on the activities - the schedule can be found below and

showing How To Train Your Dragon!! It's SO NEW that it is still only
showing in theatres BUT we are lucky enough to work with Criterion Pictures to
get permission to show it right here in Martensville!!
JR's Ice Cream will be providing ice cream too so we will be serving free cake
and ice cream at 3:30 at the North Ridge Centennial Community Centre
BBQ will run from 4pm to 7pm in support of the MHS Cheerleaders
Concession will run from 6pm to 11pm in support of the MHS Voyage Club.

CANADA DAY 2010!
The Countdown is on to Canada Day!
We are less than one month away now and we can't wait!!
ALL Events will be held at the Northridge Centennial Community Centre (900 3rd
St N, next to the new Swimming Pool - which should be open soon!) and in
Kinsmen Park.
3:00-8:00pm - Family Activities both indoors and out, including a
scavenger hunt/trivia challenge, games, crafts, sports and much more! There
will be plenty of great prizes too! All Ages Welcome!
3:30pm - Canada Day Cake - We will be serving delicious Canada Day Cake
courtesy of Theodore's Bakery! Join us at the Northridge Centre for some yummy
food! There will be enough cake for the first 200 people!
Sundown (approx 9:30pm) - Sasktel Presents Canada Day Cinema Under the
Stars! PLUS there will be FIREWORKS!!!
BBQ and Concession will be available. Thank you to the Martensville
Cheerleaders for hosting the BBQ!!

Outdoor Movie Theatre Experience!

Storey inflatable movie screen, plus there will be a concession on site!
The movie title hasn't been confirmed yet BUT we are HOPING to show How To

We are busy planning our Canada Day Celebration right here in Martensville!
What a great way to celebrate our first summer as a City than to have our own
Canada Day Event!
We are looking for volunteers to help with set up, running activity booths,
handing out tattoos and other Canada Day souvenirs, clean up and a variety of
other jobs.

Canada Day Celebration and Cinema Under The Stars!
Planning is underway for our Canada Day Celebration and Cinema Under The Stars
and We Need Your Help...
We need Your Ideas! We are looking for suggestions for a great family
movie to show at our Cinema Under The Stars - A giant outdoor movie theatre in
Kinsmen Park, complete with a 33' inflatable screen! If you have an idea for a
great family friendly movie please contact us or drop off your entry at the
Martensville Library. Ideas will be collected until Saturday, May 15th.
We are also looking for Volunteers to help with planning our Canada Day
Celebration and during the events on Canada Day.

We have lots of exciting things happening at the Community Access Centre this
Spring!
Thank you to everyone who attended our session on Planning To Sell Your Home on
March 31st. Special thanks to our local professionals who shared great
information, Jennifer Luiten-Hamm from Remax, Rob Friesen from Century 21
Conexus, and Debbie Stevenson.
Check out our next information session on "Landscaping" Thursday May 6th,
7:00-8:00pm, Room 11 at the Civic Centre
This will include information on how to get started with landscaping and
beautifying your yard and information on creating ponds.
Baby Babble and Toddler Talk are Back!
Baby Babble and Toddler Talk start again this week on April 6th and 7th. Join
us with your little ones age 0-3 years for a great way to meet other new
parents and get some great information. Moms, Dads, and Gaurdians are all
welcome! See our calendar below for upcoming topics.
Canada Day Planning is Underway!
We are busy busy busy planning our Canada Day Celebration. So far plans include
an afternoon of family fun activities, an outdoor movie theatre and fireworks!
Keep an eye out for more updates!
And finally, we want to extend a warm welcome to the newest face at the
Community Access Centre - Shannon is a student from the Youth Care Worker
program at Great Plains Regional College in Warman. She will be working on her
practicum at the Community Access Centre for the month of April. Drop in and
welcome her to our community!

Thank You to everyone who attended our March 4th Information session on
Wills, Estates and Power of Attorney. Special Thanks to Sharon Shermann
from Affinity Credit Union, Lissa Klassen from Investors Group, and Rich
Gabruch from Gabruch Legal Group for sharing some very valuable information
with all who attended.

We were pleased to help set up a presentation by the Self-Advocacy Action
Group in Mr. Mojelski's English class at the Martensville High School.
Members of SAAG, including local resident Tina Friesen, shared their
experiences with living with a disability and what self-advocacy and inclusion
mean for people with disabilities. Thank you for sharing!
The SAAG Group is raising funds to attend a world congress on Inclusion in
Berlin this summer. For more information on how you can support their efforts,
please contact us!

the Martensville Community Access Centre and the Martensville Library
Thank You to everyone who came to our first Public Information Night. Lissa

Wednesday, January 27th is National Family Literacy Day!
Join us at the Martensville Library for some great family activities and lots

Ah-Ha! Homework Club is still going for Winter 2010!
Elementary school students can drop in every Monday and Thursday evening from
6:30-8:00pm. Bring your homework, or just come for games and fun activities to
help you practice! Volunteer tutors will be there to help answer questions. We
have lots of hands on activities and games for you to use! Parents are always
welcome too! This program is free of charge!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Are You Smarter Than A
Martensville 5th Grader fundraiser on October 3rd! Your support will allow us
to continue to offer our ongoing programs and services, and will allow us to
create new programs and services to meet the needs of our growing and vibrant
community. The evening was a tremendous success and we have been getting
positive feedback ever since. We hope to see everyone come out again next year
to make it an annual event!

Martensville families welcomed approximately 183 babies into their homes 2011!
Martensville Business Expo 2012 will be held on April 27th & 28th.
We have collected over 16 000 volunteer hours from Martensville residents!! Hurray!! Have you volunteered lately? The Martensville Community Access Centre wants to know!! Please submit all of you volunteer hours.
